Preethi Sutton ~ Acupuncture

The body has an inherent self-healing ability that is second to none. But sometimes this mechanism breaks down due to various reasons and you may need to some help to kick-start it again. If you're struggling with :

then you may want to consider using acupuncture.

Acupuncture works by stimulating the body's own natural healing abilities through the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. The needles used in treatment are very fine, so patients usually feel no pain and it can be a very relaxing experience.

The theory of acupuncture

The principles of acupuncture are based on traditional Chinese medicine that dates to over two thousand years. The life force in every human being that animates us flows through the body in channels known as meridians. When we're in good health, qi flows uninterrupted around our body. But many factors such as stress or grief, injury, poor diet or lifestyle, hereditary factors, infections or weather conditions can disturb this smooth flow, resulting in disease. For example, grief from the death of a loved one or prolonged stress can lead to exhaustion; damp or cold weather makes symptoms worse in arthritis sufferers.

Acupuncture aims to restore the harmonious flow of qi and blood in our bodies and bring back natural balance. In so doing, acupuncture addresses the cause (root) of our condition, as well as the symptoms, leading to longer term resolution of problems. Acupuncture works at all levels of our being, harmonising body, mind and spirit. Many patients treated for physical problems, such as shoulder pain, report having an overall feeling of wellbeing and good health. Acupuncture is suitable for all ages, including babies and children. Acupressure (use of gentle pressure on acupuncture points without needles) is used for young children.
